This correspondent is based in Shanghai so it would seem that he could have devoted more space to China which is a success story for 20% of humanity and a little bit less to tiny NZ, an island nation with a small population. It is pretty clear why that is not done.

9/11 AT 20: A WEEK OF REFLECTION. How 9/11 enabled a preconceived vision of an imperial US foreign policy – An obscure Pentagon document from 1992 provided a blueprint for the ‘war on terror.’ SEPTEMBER 11, 2021 Written by Jim Lobe
Professor Kiji Noh in San Francisco: The senior editors/advisory staff at the liberal Responsible Statecraft have finally understood that the US plan for domination started in 1992 with the Defense Planning Guidance document, something we at P2P have pointed out constantly*, not with Trump. https://responsiblestatecraft.org/2021/09/11/how-9-11-enabled-a-preconceived-vision-of-an-imperial-us-foreign-policy/ “…the draft Defense Planning Guidance, or DPG, which set forth the underlying elements of U.S. grand strategy through the end of the century, was stunning in its vision for permanent U.S. military dominance of virtually all of Eurasia — to be achieved by “deterring potential competitors from even aspiring to a larger regional or global role” and by preempting, using whatever means necessary, states believed to be developing weapons of mass destruction.
In September 2000, PNAC published a 90-page report entitled “Rebuilding America’s Defenses” based in major part on the 1992 draft DPG which it praised as a “blueprint for maintaining U.S. preeminence, precluding the rise of a great power rival, and shaping the international security order in line with American principles and interests.”
The report also urged creating a “U.S. Space Forces with the mission of space control” and enhancing its military presence in Southeast Asia” to “cope with the rise of China to great-power status.”
*This was an interview Brian and I did on Loud and Clear (April of last year) that covered this in more detail: https://peacepivot.org/interview-with-kj-noh/
In 1992, there was the leaked Defense Planning Guidance document, authored by Paul Wolfowitz. This was a plan for full spectrum dominance, ensuring that the United States would remain the “unipolar global hegemon”. This was developed and elaborated into the 1997 Project for the New American Century, and then it was developed further into the declaration in 2011 of the Pivot to Asia. And what we see now is the legacy of these various doctrines that have codified into the US national defense strategy and National Security strategy.. Essentially what these documents are claiming is that China and Russia, and Iran, North Korea, and violent Islamic extremist groups are the enemies of the United States. Russia and China are referred to as “revisionist powers”; Iran, North Korea, and violent Islamic extremist groups are referred to as “rogue states.” That’s really only a semantic difference related to their stature and power, but essentially, they are considered to be enemies and existential threats to the U.S. and the U.S.-imposed world order. China, as the most significant power, is the greatest threat, and must be treated as such.
And the National Defense Strategy and the Nuclear Posture Review session goes on to name the tactics of grayzone, or hybrid warfare, essentially, “a long-term strategic competition refined with seamless integration of multiple elements of national power– diplomacy, information, economic, finance, intelligence, law enforcement, and military”– to prevent the rise and the ascension of China by any means necessary. The key element of this, for our purpose, is the information warfare. We have to think that bullets are being chambered and discharged: these are articles, essays, and opinions; speeches, press releases, declarations; comments, interviews, memes. Some of this is like the heavy artillery, like the New York Times, and the Washington Post, others are flak and harassing fire that you see in comment sections, discussion boards, social media. But the essential point is that the U.S. is engaged in full-scale warfare, and in particular, full-scale information warfare.
And so this is the situation that we’re in where everything is propaganda — we’re in a universe of almost global deceit. It’s very, very similar– I invite people to think of the run-up to the Iraq War as a precedent. It’s very, very similar to that situation—the drumbeat demonization; the allegations of deliberately building a weapon of mass destruction (virus in this case), or the allegations of leaking or deliberately spreading this

Book bombshell… Bob Woodward’s new book, “Peril” is out! Reporting on Trump’s mental state coming unhinged after his election defeat…. and how US Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Miley took secret action to protect America’s nuclear weapons and prevent Trump from getting his hands on the nuclear button to bomb China!
Among the people who participated in stopping Trump from doing anything disastrous for the world was General Miley, Vice President Mike Pence, Nancy Pelosi, CIA Director Gina Haspel (nickname among her CIA peers – “Bloody Gina”), Ivanda Trump, retired Gen. Keith Kellogg (who served as Pence’s national security adviser), Attorney General William Barr, and former Vice President Dan Qualye. All of them have lots of things in their history that we could strongly disagree with, but we have to give them credit for this: When the world really teetered on the edge, they stepped up to confront a mad president and save us all from a possible Armageddon.
Among the villains who sold this country (and humanity) out and helped push Trump over the edge: Steve Bannon and Rudy Giuliani.
Jared Kushner didn’t agree with Trump, but wimped out of doing anything about it.
The Chinese were quite aware of how dangerous the situation was and were on edge, but General Miley called his Chinese counterpart and reassured him that they would not let Trump start a nuclear war.
CNN: Woodward/Costa book: Worried Trump could ‘go rogue,’ Milley took secret action to protect nuclear weapons
By Jamie Gangel, Jeremy Herb and Elizabeth Stuart, CNN Tue September 14, 2021
Washington (CNN)Two days after the January 6 attack on the US Capitol, President Donald Trump’s top military adviser, Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Mark Milley, single-handedly took secret action to limit Trump from potentially ordering a dangerous military strike or launching nuclear weapons, according to “Peril,” a new book by legendary journalist Bob Woodward and veteran Washington Post reporter Robert Costa.
Woodward and Costa write that Milley, deeply shaken by the assault, ‘was certain that Trump had gone into a serious mental decline in the aftermath of the election, with Trump now all but manic, screaming at officials and constructing his own alternate reality about endless election conspiracies.’
Milley worried that Trump could ‘go rogue,’ the authors write.
“You never know what a president’s trigger point is,” Milley told his senior staff, according to the book.

Professor Kiji Noh in San Francisco: While the US blows things up and destroys things, China builds things–of astonishing beauty, such as the Yang Liping Performing Arts Center in Dali, China. Gorgeous, stunning, mind-stretching architecture.
Zhu Pei’s performing centre in China defies the traditional imagery of theatres. The Yang Liping Performing Arts Center in Dali, China, features a porous, partly sunken structure with a gargantuan organic roof, designed by the Beijing-based studio. by Zohra Khan Sep 14, 2021
Eschewing the monumental iconography of theatres and the imagery of a traditional black box isolated from the outside world is the Yang Liping Performing Arts Center in the southern Chinese city of Dali, designed by Beijing-based Studio Zhu-Pei. The architectural scheme of the cultural project is led by Zhu Pei – one of China’s leading contemporary architects known for works such as the 798 CUBE Art Museum (Beijing, 2020), Shou County Culture and Art Center (Anhui, 2019), and Minsheng Museum of Modern Art (Beijing, 2015).

The performing centre, nestled between the Cangshan mountain range rising 4,000 meters to the west, and Erhai Lake to its east, features a stunning organic roof that has been inspired by its surrounding landscapes. Amidst wetlands, woods, streams, and historic hamlets, the building reveals itself as a porous, outward-looking art space that democratically invites people to find new experiences within their own city.

Designed by Pei for friends Yang Liping and Wang Yanwu, who commissioned him for the project, the building stands out for its seamless flow of indoor and outdoor space. The roof, mimicking strong edges and soft curves of the surrounding mountains and the valley, features a cantilevered rectangular profile with a fluid amphitheatre at the heart of it.
“The strong shape of the roof reflects the more organic landscape below and points to the old Chinese principle of yin and yang, where two opposites combine together to form a whole,” mentions the Chinese studio in a press release.

The porous, partly sunken structure reveals itself as a natural garden landscape and nods to the shape of one of those gargantuan clouds that keep hovering above the city, turning it into a gorgeous bucolic painting. The organic form of the centre houses the main theatre, an amphitheatre, rehearsal and multi-function areas, a café and tearoom, a restaurant and a design shop. “Inspired by the powerful surrounding landscape, Zhu Pei searched for landscape-related references to solve the architectonic challenges for the Performing Arts Center,” adds the studio.

The project, as per the Studio Zhu-Pei, is an exploration on the philosophy of “Architecture of Nature” which formerly reflected in the design of the Jingdezhen Imperial Kiln Museum in China’s Jiangxi province. One of the key design ideas for the performing arts space was to realise a structure that fully interacts with nature, the local environment and climatic parameters. The big canopy-like form that stretches far and wide creates both large and intimate shaded spaces for public gatherings.
