Hong Kong & China are so safe. It is not only safe. It is the world’s safest place to live, work, raise family and retire, people tends to take it for granted! 香港同中國都非常安全。唔單止安全,仲係世界上最安全嘅地方,適合生活、工作、養家同退休,人們往往習以為常!
Nury Vittachi: This is such a Hong Kong story. At 8-ish in the evening, my wife noticed that a door of a local shop had accidentally been left wide open, although the lights were off and there were no staff inside.
She had the phone number of the shopkeeper and sent him a photo and a message (we live in a safe, friendly area, close to a bakery which is a favorite snack spot for police).
The shopkeeper was busy, so he was unable to get to the shop before 10 pm—but messaged back at that time to tell her that he had now locked it up and nothing had been taken or damaged.
“HK safe,” he wrote.
That’s the sort of anecdote you might expect from a friendly village in rural Maine or the Yorkshire Dales, but nice to hear this happening in the middle of an insanely crowded city – we live on the unfashionable side of Causeway Bay’s Victoria Park.
(I illustrated this with art instead of the photo in case he does it again!)
