The right for Chinese People to live as decent human being

The right for Chinese People to live as decent human being takes priority over personal liberty and profit advocated by US & Western Nations 中國人活著過上體面生活的權利優先於美國和西方國家所倡導的個人自由和利益

Professor Ling-chi Wang of UC Berkeley: Thanks for your thoughtful and powerful response to Cyrus’s article on the record of China’s battle with COVID-19 to date. I deeply admire Chinese people’s determination to fight the virus, at great costs personally and collectively, across China wherever and whenever it surfaces. In early 2020, President Xi Jinping, on the best advise provided him by Chinese scientists and public health experts, told the Chinese people that the fight was going to be a “People’s War” and People will ultimately prevail. Since then, the Chinese government has spared no expense In waging the war at home and in global south countries with unmatched generosity, To date, the Chinese people have won battle after battle from city to city, as demonstrated by the data you and Cyrus presented and reports from underdeveloped countries that accepted enormous China’s help. On the economic front, China appears to be the only country that had returned to semblance of normalcy fast and had suffered economically the least from the setback due to the zero-Covid policy. It even managed to provide the undersieged world with manufactured goods, especially the much-needed Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). On top of this, Beijing, against all odds and dire predictions, including hostile Western mainstream media and a failed boycott led by the U.S., managed ultimately in a successful hosting the most unusual, challenging 2002 Winter Olympics with no major outbreak with no help from Western countries.

But here we are, at the beginning of the third year of the global pandemic, the world is still under siege. Yet, most Western countries have essentially declared victory, lifted most restrictions, and decided to let their people live with the virus, as if it is no longer a public health threat to their people, including the most vulnerable, the elderly and the young children. China has refused to abandon her people and has chosen to protect the lives of all, especially the most vulnerable. The right to live as decent human being takes priority over personal liberty and profit. How ironic! For this, China has been the target of a concerted and relentless ridicule and mean-spirited campaign from the West. Worse, the campaign has become rather political and ideological. China’s approach, including its system of government, is now seen as a failure and worse, a disaster for the Chinese people. We obviously have decided that the million people who died in the last two years and more to come are expendable and undeserving of government protection and help.
I continue to believe that saving lives must be the top priority of every government, regardless of its system of government. That means costs to the country and suffering for its people. The Chinese government is not blind to what has been going on in China and around the world. Last month Dr. Zhong Nanshan and his collegue published an article in a science journal in the West. (I circulated the article last week). They outlined steps and measures to be taken to prepare China to reopen and return to normal living. It will take time and again active support of the people. Unlike most people in the U.S. who do not trust their own government, in fact, they are anti-government, Chinese people trust their government, as study after study has shown. They firmly believe that their government will do its utmost in providing and protecting them. I hope that day will come soon.

John V Walsh MD, Harvard University: Hi Ling-chi, You give a very sound and eloquent assessment.

You write, “China has refused to abandon her people and has chosen to protect the lives of all, especially the most vulnerable. The right to live as decent human being takes priority over personal liberty and profit. How ironic! For this, China has been the target of a concerted and relentless ridicule and mean-spirited campaign from the West. “

Exactly.

And that campaign makes my blood boil – worse, I see the US public eagerly swallowing the propaganda.

And too often those who know better self-censor. The same sort of thing that is now going on with Russia.

As the US drives ever harder in its attempt to take down China, things are going to get very ugly in the world – and here.

All for the sake of the desire of the US Ruling Class to be the world’s hegemon.

Disgusting – and tragic.

The Chinese Must Go! The Chinese Must Go! was the rallying cry once the Transcontinental Railroad was completed.

Johnson: You are all invited to attend this upcoming performance set for Saturday, May 7th. The Chinese Must Go! The Chinese Must Go! was the rallying cry once the Transcontinental Railroad was completed. Chinese never welcomed in US since before passing the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Acts that last till today! 自從通過 1882 年排華法案之前,中國人在美國從未受到歡迎,該法案一直持續到今天

After three years of covid, PSMEF needs funds. History of Chinese Railroad WorkersThe Chinese Must Go! The Chinese Must Go! was the rallying cry once the Transcontinental Railroad was completed. Widely considered as “cheap labor” the Chinese suffered decades of exploitation and racism. Many of these laborers, hired as cheap labor or indentured by labor brokers, cleared a path through the Sierras for the Central Pacific Railroad, linking up with the Western Pacific Railroad at Promontory Summit, Utah. Teamed up with Irish workers, they were pitted against each other after the railroad was completed. But during the period when working together, the Chinese and Irish demonstrated the ability to lay ten miles of railroad track in a day’s time. History revealed the hatred and racism exposing the Chinese to violence and discrimination, but yet the Chinese persevered, demonstrated forbearance in tolerating the hatred and racism, and established a life in the United States. Initially the lure of Gold Mountain in the search for gold led the Chinese to leave their home only to face poverty, despair, and persecution after abandoning their families. War, disease, overpopulation contributed to their leaving. The Opium Wars added to their migration when the Chinese rebelled against British and Chinese Imperial rule. Many fled with a price on their heads. Today, Chinese railroad workers are considered “heroes” for having the courage to leave their homes, work abroad, and send their remittances home to support their families. For many, their quest for opportunity remains today. Today, China leads the world in high speed rail. Installing over 40,000 kilometers of high speed rail in China last year, China's Belt Road Initiative seeks to link the global community together. California seeks to connect San Francisco and Los Angeles via high speed rail. The Chinese diaspora throughout the world has benefited host countries globally with trade and commerce that have improved lives within shared borders. Coolie hats worn during the past continues to be worn today and is a symbol of their perseverance. After the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad, some Chinese laborers returned back to China. Others continued to work, linking railroad lines across the United States. Many went into farming, land reclamation, or resettled into America’s cities and towns. When the Burlingame Treaty of 1869 was enacted, Many returned home and found themselves barred from returning to the United States. For these railroad “engineers” these laborers continued their work to build the Sunning Railroad, primarily in Southern China. The music for today is a collection of popular songs played during the time period, from 1863 to 1869, when the railroad was being built. Arrangements have been prepared for your enjoyment today. This is in keeping to the purpose of Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month to celebrate the contributions of these early Chinese pioneers today in music and song.
