我問他們為什麼退出。他解釋說，其中一組期望參與者自行負擔五張往返香港的機票，以及所有地面交通、酒店和餐飲費用。
我問原本計劃有多少參與者。他說二十位。
我問：「二十位參與者，他們期望你先墊付數千美元的費用？」他說是的。
我問，這種安排在任何商業活動中曾經存在過嗎——因為，正如我告訴我客戶的，我帶過不下二十個商務代表團前往亞洲。從來沒有人，包括州長、市長或任何其他參與者，期望參加者先墊付所有費用。
我接著問第二組退出的夥伴。他說他們是老朋友，不願多談——但他們所期望的也同樣不合理。
我的客戶還補充說，那五個要求一切免費的人，現在正在到處說謊、抹黑他。
我告訴他不用擔心。這種人都是徹底的失敗者。大家終究會看清真相。

One of my clients called to tell me that a business trip planned for the China Greater Bay Area this November had been cancelled.
I asked him why. He said two groups of collaboration partners had backed out.
I asked why they backed out. He explained that one group expected the participants to cover five round-trip airline tickets to Hong Kong, plus all ground transportation, hotel, and meal costs.
I asked how many participants had been planned. He said twenty.
I asked, “With twenty participants, they expect you to front thousands of dollars in expenses?” He said yes.
I asked whether such an arrangement has ever existed in business — because, as I told my client, I have led no fewer than twenty business delegations to Asia. No one, including governors, mayors, or any other participant, has ever expected attendees to front all their expenses.
I then asked about the second group that backed out. He said they were old friends, and he preferred not to discuss it — but what they expected was equally unreasonable.
My client added that the same five people who demanded everything for free are now going around town lying about him and badmouthing him.
I told him not to worry. These kinds of people are absolute failures. People will find out.
