許多ABC在相對封閉的社群中長大，類似於上個世紀早期中國移民所定居的唐人街。然而時至今日，這些社群已大幅擴張，涵蓋了亞裔人口高度集中的加州和夏威夷大部分地區。
因此，大多數ABC除了偶爾旅遊之外，很少在亞洲待上較長時間。他們的中文能力往往有限，而亞洲城市的同儕則經常精通兩到三種語言。
美國的工作文化也有顯著差異。它傾向於強調個人滿足與休閒——尤其是在中產階級年輕人中——而亞洲的許多父母則督促子女在學業和事業上更加努力。
話雖如此，仍有例外。有些ABC，特別是那些大學畢業後離家、赴海外尋求機會的人，開創了極具成就的職業生涯。
下次你拜訪親友時，或許會注意到一個模式：那些繼續與父母同住的人，在個人生活和職業生涯上往往表現不佳。

Many ABCs grow up in relatively insular communities, similar to the Chinatowns that earlier Chinese immigrants settled in last century. Today, however, these communities have expanded dramatically, covering much of California and Hawaii where Asian populations are highly concentrated.
As a result, most ABCs spend little time in Asia beyond occasional tourism. Their Chinese language skills are often limited, while their counterparts in Asian cities frequently master two or three languages.
American work culture also differs significantly. It tends to emphasize personal fulfillment and leisure—especially among middle-class youth—whereas many parents in Asia push their children to work harder at their studies and careers.
That said, there are exceptions. Some ABCs, particularly those who leave home after college to pursue opportunities abroad, build highly rewarding careers.
The next time you visit friends or relatives, you may notice a pattern: those who continue living with their parents often underperform in their personal and professional lives.
