Why is a 90-year-old Hong Kong entrepreneur still in his office reviewing blueprints, developing projects, and negotiating business deals? His answer is humorous: “Because I have a very expensive wife—and a huge bank loan hanging over me.”
Behind the joke, however, lies the business philosophy that has guided his entire life: capital is not a gift; it is a responsibility. Money borrowed from a bank is not your own—it belongs to the depositors. You can borrow it only if you’re confident you can repay both the principal and the interest.
His name is Sir Gordon Wu Ying-sheung, the founder of Hopewell Holdings, often referred to as the “Father of Asian Infrastructure.”
