US politics is a money and beauty contest

Subject: A Few Thoughts I Wanted to Share: Money Game and Beauty Contest By Johnson Choi May 2 206 主旨:分享一些想法.

Dear DH,

Carmen and I have committed to joining a mini-bus tour with friends. I thought you had left APAPA, so I was surprised to learn you’re back.

To be honest, I have been working with U.S. politics at the federal, state, and city levels since 1983, when Ronald Reagan was president. Over the course of 43 years, I have learned that U.S. politics is largely a money game and a beauty contest. Asians have virtually no chance to influence U.S. politics, let alone effect meaningful change for our community beyond the local level. Those who are wealthy and engage in U.S. politics may attract attention and gain recognition and fame, but little else.

Carmen and I prefer to use our influence for the betterment of Chinese Americans—specifically, not the wealthy ones or corrupt Chinese government officials and businessmen who call America home sweet home. I am referring to grassroots Chinese Americans who wish to leave this “hell hole” called America and return to their roots for retirement in China’s Greater Bay Area. When their monthly U.S. pension is $3,000, that amount means poverty in America, but it enables a fruitful and happy life in China—equivalent to a $15,000 monthly spending power.

Our generation of Chinese Americans who are smart enough to recognize this are among the happiest. They have chosen to “delete America” and are enjoying life to the fullest. I have dozens of clients who are doing exactly that. Every time I meet them in China, some thank me with tears in their eyes.

In my 53 years in the U.S., I have never seen so many young ABCs (American-born Chinese)—most with high EQ and IQ—giving up their U.S. citizenship. The world has changed. I have told my son and his three sons (my grandsons, ages 3 to 6) that when they grow up, America will be ten times worse than it is today. For those of us aged 50 and above, we are living on the last breath of America. For my grandsons, if they stay in the U.S., they are finished—no ifs, ands, or buts about it. If they don’t listen, their own foolishness will be their undoing, and I won’t even feel sorry for them.

The rule of the wild remains: only the fittest and smartest survive. This rule will never change, no matter how much time passes.
