Krugman and Kindleberger essentially argue that using the dollar to conduct business is more convenient and efficient for the world. A weaponised dollar, though, is neither convenient nor efficient, but downright lethal. That is why many countries, including those of the Brics+, have been busy devising alternative currency transfer and settlement systems. All that will take time. But as Washington keeps abusing its dollar privilege, others are being forced to seek alternatives. Countries like sanctioned Iran that have to work around the dollar system may, in time, be seen as pioneers in a post-dollar world.
