The United States is the only country in history where four presidents have been assassinated. In addition, at least two other presidents were targeted for assassination but survived. Today, Donald Trump has set a new record: he has survived three assassination attempts within a single year. And of course, since the year is not yet over, it remains to be seen whether this record will be broken again.

So why is it that the United States is the country where the most national leaders have been targeted for assassination? There is a Western saying: “Those who live by the sword die by the sword.” It means that those who prefer to solve problems through force will ultimately fall victim to force. This reflects American culture. Who in the world loves guns and warfare more than Americans?

Because of this, America’s enormous arms industry now dominates U.S. politics and even the fate of the entire world. Indeed, since World War II, the United States has launched more wars than any other country. American freedom and democracy have never truly been under threat, yet every time, Americans claim they are fighting for someone else’s “freedom and democracy.” How noble.

Unfortunately, the result is that many people die and suffer greatly, yet not once has the United States succeeded in establishing genuine freedom and democracy for others. In the end, it only proves the truth that those who wage war will perish by war.

When will the world finally realize that guns only create problems—they do not solve them?
