Yet every day I hear so many Chinese Americans give me all sorts of nonsensical reasons about how difficult it is to return and settle in China. It really feels a bit inexplicable!
What’s more, quite a few Chinese Americans have stripped their children of their cultural skills — they don’t let them speak or write Chinese, and want them to be “bananas” (yellow on the outside, white on the inside). It’s a pity that these children end up as unrequited lovers — no matter how much you love America, America just doesn’t love you back, treating you like a third‑class citizen!
