US Olympic team departed for the Beijing Olympics Thursday morning.
A total of 223 U.S. athletes will participate in the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, according to the official list of the IOC.
It is the second-largest number of athletes the United States has ever sent to a Winter Olympics.
Delta Air Lines charter flight carried athletes, coaches and trainers for the games which are scheduled to start next week.
Departing Olympians expressed joy that their months of preparation and COVID-19 isolation were finally being rewarded.
The boycott does not prevent U.S. athletes from taking part in the Games, which are being held under strict anti-pandemic rules.
