This is Science mag a publication of the AAAS which in its non-science articles and news coverage often comes close to being a mouthpiece for the Empire – very different from Nature or The Lancet published in the UK.

This correspondent is based in Shanghai so it would seem that he could have devoted more space to China which is a success story for 20% of humanity and a little bit less to tiny NZ, an island nation with a small population. It is pretty clear why that is not done.
