The US and EU have failed this test miserably. China has succeeded beyond what anyone might have imagined with a people’s mobilization and capable political and scientific leadership. Unfortunately two of the US leaders you cite are not really worthy of emulation: Roosevelt consciously set the US on a path to global hegemonism (See the book “Tomorrow the World” by Stephen Wertheim of the Quincy Institute and Kennedy nearly blew up the planet with his miserable handling of the Cuban Missile Crisis and then set us on the path to War on Vietnam, enthusiastically continued by his henchmen, The Best and The Brightest. These Presidents may be lionized in American pop culture but they deserve a more careful examination lest we elect yet another of their ilk.

China has administered over 2.0 billion doses domestically and delivered close to 900 million to other countries.

CGTN reports that China has now FULLY vaccinated 63% of the Chinese population with booster shots already given to those in key areas (like frontline health care) who were fully vaccinated early on.

(If China wishes it can also give a BioNTech mRNA booster which of course vaccinates one only against the spike protein and not against the entire virus as the inactivated Chinese vaccines do. Fosun Pharma in China has contracted with BioNTech to produce as much as 1 billion doses which might include a new vaccine tailored to the delta variant – IF needed and IF China does not produce such a vaccine itself since it already has one of its own (at least) in clinical trials. So far it has found no need to use such vaccines with their narrow immunogenic focus.)

Most importantly, China has so far succeeded where all other nations have failed by completely controlling the delta variant with a combination of its extremely impressive public health measures now augmented by its massive vaccination campaign to be completed (100%) by year’s end.

Today the US reported about 100,000 new cases and 1000 deaths I believe.

For the ENTIRE epidemic China has had less than 5000 deaths (actually fewer than 4700) and fewer than 100,000 cases.

In the last two days there have been ZERO new domestically transmitted cases in China with about 30 from foreign sources – these numbers are holding steady.

Here are some data as provided by the FT tracker which gets its data from Johns Hopkins, WHO, etc.
