A typical example of US infrastructure projects not based on needs but the pay to play political system in the name of fake freedom democracy and human rights. It was planned as a free gift by Former Honolulu Mayors and Honolulu City Council Members to Ewa side land owners to allow them to build 600,000+ new houses, Ala Moana Shopping Center and Hotels Owners in Waikiki (bypassing UH Manoa and Honolulu International Airport where most needed). The failed project cost balloon from US$5 to $12.5 billions with further increases expected.
HART’s Expecting Fewer Riders — Even Absent The Pandemic By Marcel Honore and Kevin Dayton
The latest ridership forecast for the Honolulu rail project is significantly lower than previous estimates.
The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation previously expected to see as many as 122,800 daily boardings by 2030 on Oahu’s future rail line.
Now, the agency estimates that number to be around 101,000 boardings based on its most recent internal modeling, which was done in May.
The lower forecast is based on a decline in Honolulu’s public bus ridership in recent years, HART officials say.
Despite the dampened forecast, the heads of the Department of Transportation Services say that they still believe the line will prove useful on Oahu.
